Commissioned by Koala to celebrate the diversity of Australian creative expression while reflecting the shared inspiration that sits at the heart of the project: the land itself.
Niah Juella McLeod is a contemporary Indigenous artist based in Byron Bay, whose intricate paintings explore connection, memory, ancestry and Country. A proud descendant of the Monero, Wandandian and Yuin peoples of south-eastern Australia, Niah’s practice is deeply influenced by stories passed down through generations and her ongoing connection to culture and family. Working through delicate layers of fine marks and organic forms, Niah creates meditative works that invite quiet reflection and a deeper appreciation of the natural world. Her work is a celebration of identity, heritage and the enduring relationship between people and place.
