This painting began with two unexpected discoveries. The first was the skull of a dingo I came across while hiking in the Australian bush. The second was a delicate, lifeless moth I found some time later in my painting studio.
Although discovered in entirely different places, both seemed to belong together. Two creatures that once lived, moved, and existed in the world, now reduced to the quiet traces of their former lives.
By bringing them together, I wanted to explore the fleeting nature of existence and the inevitability of death. The contrast between the fragile golden wings of the moth and the weathered white bone serves as a reminder that no living thing is permanent, regardless of its strength, beauty, or place in nature.
Yet I don't see this painting as something entirely sorrowful. Rather, it is a quiet appreciation of life itself, and the beauty that can still be found in what remains.
The painting itself is roughly 8 by 13cm, with the frame it is 29.5 by 34.5 cm
