A captivating exploration of form and movement, Arabesque presents a vibrant floral arrangement that pulses with contemporary energy. Rendered in bold acrylic on canvas, the composition centers on a collection of deep indigo irises reaching upward with a gestural, almost rhythmic vitality. The saturated teal background creates a striking colour contrast, allowing the cool blue tones of the petals to vibrate against the surface.
Subtle drips of paint on the left-hand bloom lend the piece a raw, expressive immediacy, while the minimalist glass vessel provides a moment of structural clarity amidst the flowing organic shapes.
Dark, silhouetted foliage anchors the lower half of the frame, grounding the ethereal quality of the flowers.
This work strikes a sophisticated balance between traditional still life and modern abstraction, making it a powerful statement piece for any curated collection. With its evocative title and masterful use of negative space, Arabesque invites the viewer into a world of fluid elegance and intense colour.

Artist Bio: Miriam Wells is a contemporary abstract expressive painter whose work spans lyrical floral still life and true abstract expressionism.
She's fascinated by growth and seasonal change - and how these processes are both fast and slow simultaneously. Her practice is anchored by the simple art of paying attention in small green spaces - and how this opens up new worlds. Through this small lens of vessels, petals and ponds, wonder lives in every brushstroke. With a degree in Creative Arts from the University of Wollongong, and experience as an academic in art history, dramaturgy and creative writing theory, Mim has recently shifted her creative practice from writing to painting, embracing an expressionist's toolkit of bold strokes and emotive abstraction, with a decadent's obsession with beauty, abundance and decay.
