This vibrant still life painting presents a collection of lemons arranged within a bold, circular blue vessel, transforming an everyday subject into an expressive exploration of colour, texture and light.
The luminous yellows and warm golden tones of the lemons command the composition, contrasted against the deep navy interior of the bowl. Thick, visible brushstrokes give the fruit a tactile quality, allowing the physical movement of the paint to remain present across each form. Soft areas of white and pale yellow create highlights, suggesting light catching the uneven surfaces of the lemons.
Surrounding the bowl, the turquoise ground creates a striking contemporary frame, amplifying the warmth of the fruit while giving the composition a sense of energy and playfulness. The simplified forms and heightened colours move the work away from traditional realism and towards a more intuitive, expressive interpretation of still life.
The painting celebrates the beauty of ordinary objects through an unapologetically bold palette sunlight, abundance and joy captured through colour and gesture.
