A play of dreamlike theatre where the familiar rules of nature appear gently suspended. The leopards occupy different positions throughout the tree. Climbing, watching, prowling and resting that draws the eye through the painting. Below and around them, the sand grouse form a constantly shifting chorus of movement and flights and intentional varying colour, their presence adding both energy and narrative.
Rendered in expressive, tactile layers of oil, the work sits between natural history, mythology and surrealism. The deliberate exaggeration of scale, the floating clouds and the improbable gathering of animals create an imagined wilderness that feels simultaneously mythological ancient story and that of a contemporary lense on everyday life akin to the human world.
