With 10, Christopher R Inwood reaches a quiet crescendo within his unseen Cannon Fodder Blue collection. A lone male figure is held against a panel of “the blackest black that can be blacked,” a surface so absolute it seems to swallow both light and language. The portrait does not announce itself—it endures.
The title, 10, suggests culmination, threshold, or reckoning: a number loaded with finality and weight. Whether read as an endpoint or a moment of assessment, it carries the gravity of having arrived somewhere irreversible. Inwood resists explanation, allowing the figure to exist in that charged stillness.
Here, black becomes psychological space rather than backdrop. 10 is restrained, solemn, and quietly monumental—a powerful, unseen work that rewards prolonged attention and stands as a compelling acquisition from one of Inwood’s most probing series.
