Where I live, near Lismore in northern NSW, the country roads are infamous for potholes. Driving becomes an activity of focus when manoeuvring the variety of roundish bunkers, often while travelling at 100km. In the sunset light, the organic round shapes can glisten pink or orange, I love this time of day. ‘Sunset Drive’ reimagines these weaving travelling sensations and atmosphere in an abstract map of sorts.
This painting is part of my 'Here & There' series. This series continues my practice interest of paying attention to everyday sensations while moving through environments then extending this experience through material expression. Perhaps this process may provoke the viewer to connect with how they feel and consider the everyday beauty encountered when travelling here and there.
Artist Bio: Jacqueline is interested in painting what it feels like moving through and connecting with particular environments. The abstract paintings build up over time with emotive colour and gooey brushwork being key.
Jacqueline has completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts, Honours in Creative Industries and Doctorate in Philosophy (Creative Arts). She has worked as an artist and educator for the past decade and has had several solo exhibitions.
She currently lives in Mcleans Ridges, northern NSW with her young family.
