Nocturne
Dryandra Moth
30 × 40 cm | Mixed media on canvas | Framed in solid walnut
Inspired by the Australian Dryandra Moth, Nocturne explores the quiet beauty of transformation. Emerging through one of nature’s most extraordinary life cycles, the moth becomes a symbol of renewal, reminding us that the deepest changes often take place unseen, long before they are revealed to the world.
Created as part of The Sun, The Moon and The Stars, this work reflects the contemplative hours of the night, when stillness invites honesty and reflection. It speaks to the gradual process of letting go of old identities and becoming more fully ourselves. Transformation is not about becoming someone new, but uncovering who we have always been.
Built with richly layered mixed media, soft pastels and reflective paints, the surface shifts with changing light, revealing subtle luminosity across the moth’s wings. Both delicate and resilient, Nocturne is a meditation on growth, self-discovery and the quiet courage it takes to emerge transformed.
