Developed following a period spent in Barcelona, this painting forms part of an ongoing exploration of place, memory, and figurative representation. The work responds to the city's distinctive light, colour palette, and artistic heritage, particularly its long tradition of expressive and modernist painting. Through simplified forms, heightened colour relationships, and gestural brushwork, the painting seeks to translate lived experience into a visual language that moves beyond documentation. The figure acts as both subject and witness, embodying the reflective process through which travel experiences are absorbed, remembered, and reimagined through painting. - Emmaleen Diaz
