This painting emerges from my ongoing exploration of painting as an imaginative, implosive landscape held within a flat surface. I am drawn to texture, rhythm, and the sensation of experience rather than fixed meaning. In this work, paint becomes a vessel for movement and memory—echoing gentle currents, surging tides, and the shifting cadence of the sea. Layers accumulate and erode, preserving traces of process much like nature embeds time within stone, shell, and reef.
Inspired by the underwater environment of Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary, this painting reflects a moment of immersion during a storm, where I drifted in the ocean’s rhythmic embrace. Beneath the surface, perception dissolved: plants swayed into creature-like forms, fish disappeared into rock and weed, and light fractured into fleeting, liquid patterns. Boundaries between stillness and motion, form and abstraction, became fluid and uncertain.
I aim to balance abstraction with subtle references to the natural world, allowing space for ambiguity and poetic interpretation. Ocean Prayer invites viewers into a quiet, shifting realm—an intimate, meditative encounter with transformation, wonder, and the unseen rhythms of nature.
Artist Bio: She completed a Master of Fine Art at the Vilnius Art Academy in Lithuania and was a recipient of a scholarship at the International Summer Academy in Salzburg.
Brigita has always been fascinated by the landscape, and organic forms and textures. Her paintings are not intended to replicate a scene, but rather evoke a feeling and a sense of place. Brigita’s paintings are visceral and relate to inward feeling rather than to intellect. Her painting process is spontaneous and raw, and her visual language features abstract textural shapes, rhythmical patterns, calligraphic marks, and unique colour combinations.
Brigita’s fascination with the underwater world and snorkelling is evident in her art practice. Her unexpected seascapes appear in ever changing new ways, but organic textural marks that remind of a hand-woven tapestry remain distinct to her artistic style.
