This painting is part of my floral exploration series and explores connection through simplified organic forms that resemble open hands, petals and abstract botanical elements. Set against a soft blush background, the bold red and magenta shapes create a visual conversation between energy and calm. The work invites viewers to find their own meaning—whether it be growth, community, playfulness or the simple act of reaching out.
Inspired by the expressive cut-outs of Henri Matisse and the bold, contemporary abstraction of modern colour-field and biomorphic art, this painting reflects an intuitive approach to shape and colour. Rather than depicting recognisable objects, it celebrates emotion through simplified forms, vibrant contrasts and the joy of spontaneous composition. The textured surface adds depth and reminds the viewer of the handmade process behind the work.
Artist Bio: Jess Lloyd is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist based in Geelong, Victoria, creating vibrant works that explore joy, emotion, memory and connection through colour, movement and shape. Working across painting, wearable art and handmade accessories, Jess’s practice blurs the boundaries between fine art and functional expression.
Her evolving practice is driven by an intuitive love of colour and unexpected combinations, with music, emotion and everyday experiences often shaping her work. In 2026, Jess began her Floral Exploration Series, reimagining the traditional language of flowers through expressive colour, texture and abstract form, including works created on reclaimed canvases.
Jess has exhibited in multiple group shows, sold work through Bluethumb and her online network, and collaborated with local organisations and creatives. Her work has also been featured by the Barwon Health Foundation through Candles for a Cause and in Geelong’s GT Magazine. Through her art and online presence, Jess continues to create joyful, accessible work that invites viewers to see the world through a more colourful lens
