Once upon a time, four intersecting tram lines straddled this corner of Newtown.
It was a tight bend for the trams, especially as they rattled down King Street.
To make space, corners of the iconic green building were carved, its façades were angled and shopfronts coloured.
That’s why this intersection feels so dramatic - it is standing up straight in an effort to make room and be seen by the trams. .
