This painting reflects the idea that experiences rarely leave us in clear or orderly ways. Instead, they settle into us as fragments — impressions that remain long after the moment itself has passed.
While creating this piece I was thinking about how grief and memory imprint themselves beneath the surface. Not always visible at first, but quietly shaping how we carry ourselves forward.
The surface of this work holds those fragments. Areas of colour sit beside raw, exposed sections of timber, allowing parts of the material to remain visible. For me this felt important — acknowledging that not everything needs to be covered or resolved.
The darker lines move across the surface almost like pathways, connecting moments of colour and space. They speak to the way experiences overlap and intersect over time.
Abstract painting allows me to explore these traces without needing to define them too clearly. Sometimes what remains — the imprint itself — is enough.
