At the heart of The Sun is an invitation to surrender. The glowing sun becomes both a guiding force and a symbol of trust, representing the moment we stop resisting life and allow ourselves to be carried by something greater than ourselves.
The two figures embody the duality that exists within us all; light and shadow, fear and courage, the past and the self we are becoming. Their relationship speaks to the continual balancing of opposing forces, reminding us that growth often comes through embracing both.
Wrapped around the composition, the serpent represents transformation. Rather than a symbol of danger, it reflects the shedding of old identities, beliefs and ways of being. The quiet struggle between the figure and the snake mirrors the inner wrestling that so often precedes profound change.
Built with layers of sand and richly textured mixed media, the surface catches the light, creating a subtle glow that shifts throughout the day. This luminous quality reinforces the work’s central theme: that even through periods of uncertainty and transformation, there is always light to move towards.

Erin loves to capture Australian scenes, people and wildlife, featuring thick brush strokes, mixed textures and bright palettes.
Outside of time spent in her at-home studio, Erin indulges in her love for good food and wine with family and friends, and cherishes time spent with her young children, immersing them in nature around Queensland and at her family’s farm in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales.
