The other word for maple in Japanese, Kaede, stems from the fact that the shape of its leaves resembles a frog's (kaeru) hand (te). I was inspired by the high chromatics of the Japanese maple from my front garden, so typical of autumn: burnished green and cadmium yellow, beautiful shades of red.
Artist Bio: I have an upcoming exhibition in June 2026 at Artemisia, Windsor: surreal forested landscapes interspersed with dreeamlike elements. Previous shows at Brunswick Street Gallery (BSG), Painted City: landscape paintings of the inner north and Melbourne City, and a series on Wildflowers found in the city. I have participated in group exhibitions across Australia, and l hold a bachelor of Visual Arts & Design, Postgraduate degree in Creative Writing and Bachelor of Arts.
