I’ve enjoyed doing works with an invented pattern and this one was no different with the focus on the classic blue and white ceramics often found in vintage Chinese porcelain and mass manufactured today. I had a nice sketchy feel to some elements and the striking blue compliments those regal oranges.
Artist Bio: Jody Rigby, an emerging self taught Sydney artist, produces classic still life works with saturated hues and creates form with texture. With a passion for antiques and past career in horticulture, her work features utilitarian vessels and simple florals that would be at home in a country kitchen or moody hall. ‘I’ve always been fascinated with how we each see objectively through our eyes and how artists each interpret the same scenes differently, capturing different details . I look for a sheen or a shadow, not chasing perfection but use broader deliberate brushstrokes to suggest the weight of the subject matter and in turn give a lovely rustic tone to the work. I also like the a pop of rich colour among muddy values"
