This work is a celebration of our wild seas. A place that many are strongly connected to. Harriet's paintings explore our relationship with the vast expanse between the continents. What secrets do the seas hold?
Through the language of abstraction Harriet communicates a strong sense of connection and emotion towards these landscapes.
She lives in a unique place called' Clifton Beach' in a remote corner of Southern Tasmania. While exploring the beaches on her back doorstep she has collected memories, ideas, pearls of wisdom and physical found objects to produce a number of beautifully framed paintings. Harriet has invited found objects form Clifton Beach into her studio as a starting point for each canvas. There is even sand and sea spray on their surface. Over a series of months, but a lifetime of looking, Harriet has observed her feelings and emotions to capture the pure essence of what it means to be in the presence of the sea.
She continues to think about climate change and the impact humans have on the environment. Harriet loves the mysterious nature of the sea and celebrates its calmness and beauty, juxtaposed with the brutality and mind-blowing power of it.
Artist Bio: Harriet Links, an emerging artist based in Hobart, Tasmania, finds her creative impulse rooted in a boundless curiosity cultivated through interactions with people and the natural world. Her process is shaped from travel and an abundance of rich life experiences. Harriet seeks to unravel the complexities of her identity and make sense of the evolving world that surrounds her.
Her artistic exploration delves into the intricacies of the human condition, shedding light on what it means to be a woman in today's dynamic and ever-changing global landscape. Harriet’s work is a visual testament to the ongoing journey of self-discovery.
In her current artistic practice, she is fascinated by the juxtaposition of stillness and movement, focus and distraction. A recurring motif within her work is the equine form, serving as a figurative reference that symbolises the struggle between the constrained and the out-of-control aspects within every individual. The horse, embodying strength, flow, positive energy, aspiration, peace, and escapism, becomes a powerful conduit for connectedness and personal growth.
