Being an ex antique dealer, I'm surrounded by vintage and antique vessels so they often feature in my work. The humble and classic Cornishware jug is an iconic piece of the country kitchen and I wanted to make them the hero of this work. I love capturing the glaze and highlights on the pottery
Artist Bio: Jody Rigby, an emerging self taught Sydney artist, produces classic still life works with saturated hues and creates form with texture. With a passion for antiques and past career in horticulture, her work features utilitarian vessels and simple florals that would be at home in a country kitchen or moody hall. ‘I’ve always been fascinated with how we each see objectively through our eyes and how artists each interpret the same scenes differently, capturing different details . I look for a sheen or a shadow, not chasing perfection but use broader deliberate brushstrokes to suggest the weight of the subject matter and in turn give a lovely rustic tone to the work. I also like the a pop of rich colour among muddy values"
