A bright landscape capturing the warmth of summer and my love of atmospheric light and big skies. Bright, breezy clouds drift above a valley made golden in the sun. Created with many layers of softly blended paint to build depth with expressive mark making and a gentle luminous sky.
Artist Bio: Michelle is a landscape painter whose work is deeply informed by the wonder and awe of a vast, ever-changing landscape. Her practice is rooted in memory and intuition, painting atmospheric scenes of light, movement, and feelings of a place. She rarely paints the likeness of a place but rather the essence of the place so you'll feel like you've been there too. An avid traveller, she is easily stopped in her tracks with the wonder of nature. Sitting on a beach to watch a sunset until the very last hint of light disappears. A daydreamer, she always looking out for awe and the sublime.
Michelle primarily works with acrylics, using delicate glazes and layers to achieve depth and luminosity, evoking the feeling of being within the landscape rather than observing it.
Her sense of drama and wild romanticism was nurtured by youthful ballet training and a childhood in country NSW where time spent in the scrubby bushland, cooling off on river banks on forty degree days and the cicada soundtrack cemented a love and nostalgia for big skies and vast landscapes.
