With warm light shining on the cooler sea water, the narrative of the painting seeks to explore the concept of arrival in a broader sense. It is the metaphor for the myriads of arrival and departure experiences we have in life -- either physically or emotionally. It references the scene when arriving at Devonport, Tasmania through travelling by the sea. At the edge of the ever-changing water lies the land with the enduring presence that anchors us through the flux of life. The arrival is to the tranquillity, the constancy, or perhaps the new discovery that could transform to the next departure.
