Amongst the flux of daily life that is full of constant movement and change, a horizon or where land meets sky provides essential calm and clarity. In making this painting I tuned into the rhythms of my local northern NSW hinterland, looking out over rolling hills into the distance. The beauty of layered hills in different lights become absorbed and spark imagination and open-mindedness. In this composition I incorporated steadfast horizons amongst the movement of flowing strokes. The paint weaving and layering over time, just as life is lived. Dusk colours in both their golden light and cool shade are used, a nod to the end of one day being a new horizon for the next.
Making this painting was an act of contemplation. The hope is it may provide an abstract touchstone of beauty and an imaginary space to linger in that provides beauty and optimism.
Artist Bio: Jacqueline is interested in painting what it feels like moving through and connecting with particular environments. The abstract paintings build up over time with emotive colour and gooey brushwork being key. A path motif in various forms has emerged as a recurring feature in her work over time.
Jacqueline has completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts, Honours in Creative Industries and Doctorate in Philosophy (Creative Arts). She has worked as an artist and educator for the past decade. Her most recent major solo exhibition was at ‘Distract/Attend’ at Logan Art Gallery, 2024.
