This painting draws from watching clouds roll in as an afternoon storm gathers. Living in northern NSW, this particular atmosphere is quintessential to summer. The sky moves quickly, wind blows and at the same time a quiet stillness forms. There is a beautiful drama. This painting layers wide brushstrokes and flowing paths, cool blues and purples are balanced by flashes of light.
This work is part of my 2024 ‘Cloudbusting’ series, an installation presented at the Logan Art Gallery.
Artist Bio: Jacqueline is interested in painting what it feels like moving through and connecting with particular environments. The abstract paintings build up over time with emotive colour and gooey brushwork being key. A path motif in various forms has emerged as a recurring feature in her work over time.
Jacqueline has completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts, Honours in Creative Industries and Doctorate in Philosophy (Creative Arts). She has worked as an artist and educator for the past decade. Her most recent major solo exhibition was at ‘Distract/Attend’ at Logan Art Gallery, 2024.
